Deaette lived and worked in Jasper for most of her life. In 1984, she married McCleskey “Mack” Sparks from Townley, where they resided until the home going of Mack in 1999.
She worked many years in retail at G. May and Sons, Kays, Carol’s and Weinstein’s. She loved her clientele and they trusted her expertise! She has always been dedicated to whatever she put her hand to. She was very involved in her church and community, always lending a helping hand. She was also a wonderful cook, one of her most famous things to make and was requested by all family members, was her “fried okra." She was a great southern cook.
She was best known to her family as “Mama-D," and even close friends would call her “Mama-D.” She was loved by so many. She would always have an encouraging word.
She loved her family and is leaving behind a legacy of six great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all that loved her. The one thing she would want every single person to know is to make sure that you have accepted Jesus in your heart and life. To let go of the strife towards anyone and just love each other.
She was preceded in death by her husband, McCleskey “Mack” Sparks; daughter, Brenda Kay Bobko; parents, Thomas Jethro Nelson and Maudie Odessa Nelson; and siblings, Arnold Dean and Tressie, Iris Cregar, Lawrence Belton Nelson, and Billy Jerry Nelson.
She is survived by her children, Robin Hyche (Fred) and Billy Sparks (Mary Jean); grandchildren, Missy Spinella (Mario), Keith McCullar (Tammy), and Gabriel Santa Cruz (Melissa); six great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
