Mr. Billy George Smith

Family will be receiving friends at New Prospect Baptist Church, on Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 1 until 2 p.m., with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing. Service will follow at New Prospect Baptist Church at 2 p.m., burial at New Prospect Baptist Cemetery. Blake Prater will officiate.

Billy George was a lifelong member of New Prospect Baptist Church; he helped with construction of Christian Life Center and Anthony Hall. He loved God, his church, his family and friends. Billy George taught, refereed, and coached basketball at Farmstead for many years then moved to the Jefferson County School system and retired from Minor High School. He was an avid gardener and shared all his bounty with anyone and everyone. Loved woodworking and building birdhouses and swings. He loved Alabama Football – ROLL TIDE!!!

He was preceded in death by his wife, Genell Smith; parents, James Earl Smith and Edith Bessie Sherer Smith; and sister, Roberta Smith Reeves.

He is survived by his daughters, Renee Smith Henry, Sandi Smith Files (Jerry Arthur Jr.); son, George Gregory Smith; grandchildren, Paul Stanley Panter (Tashina), Nicholas Arthur Files and Haley Blue Files; great grandchildren, Shawn Michael Panter and Aaron Bruce Panter and a host of friends.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Felix Files for his compassion, kindness and loving care.

Pallbearers will be Paul Stanley Panter, Nicholas Arthur Files, Shawn Michael Panter, Aaron Bruce Panter and Felix Brent Files.
