Tyrel Lyle Genoff was born on April 4, 1988 to Tony and Misi Genoff in Gillette, Wyoming. From an early age he excelled at competitive swimming and joined the USAA swim team in 1996 where he competed at the highest levels within his age group. Tyrel continued competitive swimming into his high school years when he made the Wyoming state swim team as a sophomore. In 2006 Tyrel moved to Texas where he attended the Marine Military Academy in Harington. During his time at MMA Tyrel continued to excel in competitive swimming and set multiple school records, many of which still stand today. Tyrel graduated in 2007. After attending Texas State University, Tyrel joined the Marine Corps on July 1, 2008. He attended Marine Corps Recruit training on board Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, where he graduated as his company’s honor man. Tyrel went on to graduate from the Infantry Training Battalion after which he attended Basic Reconnaissance Course. After graduating Basic Reconnaissance Course on July 24, 2009 Tyrel was assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion and in 2010 was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon his return Tyrel was assigned to Alpha Company where he completed another deployment while attached to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit from 2011-2012. During his time at 1st Reconnaissance Bn he attended Airborne and Multi Mission Parachutist Course. In 2013 Tyrel attended Combat Instructor Course and became a Tactical Instructor at Reconnaissance Training Company, SOI-West. Tyrel was an instructor for three years, where he trained and mentored an entire generation of new Reconnaissance Marines. While with RTC, Tyrel attended Marine Combatant Dive, Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival, Sergeants Course, and Marine Corps Scout Sniper where he received three awards including Honor Graduate, Instructors Choice and High Shooter. In addition Tyrel was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his exemplary performance. Tyrel also received a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for his Outstanding Performance as a Combat Instructor. In 2016 Tyrel reconnected with his old childhood friend from Wyoming, Chelsea Barnett. Tyrel and Chelsea quickly became inseparable and were married on June 22, 2016. In August of 2016 Tyrel and Chelsea relocated to North Carolina where Tyrel was assigned to 2D Reconnaissance Bn. While at 2D Recon Bn Tyrel attended Low Level Static Line Jump Master, Free Fall Jump Master, SERE School and served in the Billets of Team Leader and Assistant Platoon Sgt. Tyrel is survived by his daughter, Reese Genoff, his parents and his loving wife, Chelsea.
