Phil "Buzzy" was born in Merdian, CT on Oct.31, 1973; he was the son of Philip & Janet Kelley who survive.
Phil is survived by his wife of 22 years, Monica Gentry Kelley,; three step children Nicholas, Justin, and Aurianna, Son in law Patrick Leen; three Grandchildren Atlanta, Houston, and Kahlil.
Though Phil was an only child he gained 4 brothers Michael, Jeffrey, Mike, Christian and 4 sisters Melanie, Edie, Sherrie, and Cherryl when he married Monica. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his grandmother Elizabeth "Boopie" Carlson.
Phil was preceded in death by his grandparents Nicholas and Cilia Kelley, Howard "Howie" Carlson, Chief James& Linda Gentry; his step daughter Haley, and a brother in law Michael Gentry-Garcia.
Phil entered the U.S. Marines after graduating Lyman Hall High. After 4 years in the Marines he joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he earned the rank of Yeoman Chief Petty Officer. Phil served 24 years in the military and upon retirement, he went back to work for Camp Lejeune in the DMO office. He earned a spot into the exclusive Cool Kids Club of DMO.
Phil was a diehard Washington Redskins fan. His "other team" was the Seattle Seahawks. He loved the New York Yankees, Boston College football and UConn Basketball. He was a Motorcycle safety instructor and loved to ride. He was a proud member of the Patriot Guard. He had a love for Craft Beer and was part of a Mug Club of Heads Up Brewing in Silverdale, WA for many years. He loved to fish and hunt however, his most enjoyable times over the past 12 or so years have been with his 5:20 Crew on Xbox. "Coast", as he was known, looked forward to gaming with his buddies daily and cherished the friendships he made with each and every one of the crew. He was an avid Bulldog lover. His Frenchie “Ralphie Mae" was his best buddy to kick back with and game.
We shall gather for a final ride of honor Friday, December 8th at 1:00 pm at Johnson Funeral home, 2685 Henderson Dr., Jacksonville, NC where will be under escort by the Patriot Guard Riders to the State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville for a 2:00 PM graveside service.
