William (Bill) Edward Saunders, the 4th of 6 children, was born to George and Mary Catherine Saunders on March 4, 1925 in New Hanover County, North Carolina. He gave his life to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was called home to be with Him on December 5, 2013. He honored his country during World War II by serving as a Sargent in the Army Air Corps in England and France. After returning from the war, he met Leola Scott. They were married for 27 years. Following her death, William married Josephine Carter. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after serving 31 years. William is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Elliot, Roy, Herbert; sisters Mary Catherine Merritt, Elizabeth Dushane, and grandson Adam Youngblood. He is survived by his wife Josephine Saunders; children: Barbara Youngblood (Steve), Deborah Gross (Brad), Scott Saunders (Jackie), Robin Stevens (Tom), Cindy Corbitt (Jamie); 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was a Master Gardener, an avid bowler, and a volunteer at St Vincent’s Medical Center. William was loved by all, a hero of many, and the best husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather that this world has ever known. He is a man who will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home located at 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jax. FL 32205, where a public visitation will be held, Monday Dec 9, 2013 from 10:00 – 11:00 am, followed by funeral services at 11:00 am and interment at Riverside Memorial Park, Rev. Stephen Whitcomb of Promise Land Baptist Church officiating.
