William (Bill) Ragan passed away July 18, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida. Bill was born at home on May 25, 1931 in Henry County, Alabama. His mother passed away on September 6, 1940. He and three of his sisters were placed in the Alabama Baptist Children's Home in Troy, Alabama on January 24, 1941 where he remained until May 30, 1950. Bill proudly served the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. He retired after 30 years of employment at Southern Bell, and he also was employed with Walmart for 15 years.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Alma; brothers Rudolph, James, and Joey; and sisters Maudie, Miriam (Meme), Gwen, and Etta Mae. He is survived by his wife Linda; daughters Pamela and Marianne; sons Mark and Michael; grandchildren Mark II, Brittany, Alysha, Ashley, Mallory, Madison, and the light of his life Cassidy Blaire; great-grandchildren Sarah, Katie, and Savannah; brothers Charles and John; sisters Sarah, Irene, Joann, Mary Olive, and Ruth; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church. Reverend Ray Mayfield will serve as officiant. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERSIDE MEMORIAL PARK AND FUNERAL HOME, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, is serving the family.
