Dr. William L. Patterson, age 66, received his angel wings while at home on May 13, 2017. His final days were spent peacefully with family and loved ones, enjoying all things in life that he so loved. Bill was born in Jacksonville, FL on February 16, 1951, and preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William M. Patterson, Jr. and Faye Beatty Patterson. Bill leaves loving memories to be cherished by his daughter, Caroline (Jesse); his son, Mac; his sister, Cheryl Patterson Stedeford (Walter); nephew, Hays Patterson Carlyon (Kerri); and grand-niece, Avery, and grand-nephew, Jackson. Bill also leaves behind his special love, Janice Green, who took good care of him and helped him live his last days to their fullest. Bill graduated from The Bolles School in 1969 and from Wofford College in 1974. He went on to dental school at Emory University, graduated and returned to Jacksonville to practice dentistry alongside his father. Bill eventually took over the practice taking great pride in all that his father had built. He was loyal to the staff and clients and carried on with the outstanding service and traditions of the practice for over 45 years. He retired in 2015. A die-hard Gator fan who loved the outdoors, Bill had a very strong faith in God that carried him throughout his very full and memorable life. He blames CW and Grady (and many others) for all the good times, bad times, and other times that can't be mentioned here. He possessed an ideal balance of empathy, generosity, humor, and sweetness that simply radiated from him. Always the perfect southern gentleman with a witty commentary, he loved his children and family, his dogs (Katie, Belle, Boone and Ellie), hunting, history, traveling, classic rock, and his many, many friends. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 18, 10:00 a.m., at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd., followed by a celebration of Bill's life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to Bill's favorite charity, St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family also asks that you spend time with your children, take a walk on the beach with your loved ones, make a toast to enduring friendships in this life and beyond, and work hard to Make America Great Again; it is what Bill would want.
