We lost everyone's "Uncle Willie" (a/k/a William J, Newman) last night. Dad was a true Mensch. A tireless Shriner's Hospital philanthropist, Landon HS grad, Gator, US Navy bugler, Numismatist, an antique
gun, stamp & watch collector. He drove an Austin Healey 3000 Mark Ill and flew a J3 Cub. He owned 6
pawnshops, 9 jewelry businesses, 1 Mortgage company, and a kid's clothing shop. He was a
Certified GIA Diamond expen, Self-taught pianist, Ukulele and trumpet player, Shriner, Mason, Moose,
Elk and a card carrying Special Policeman. His greatest feat? He spent 74+ years with 1 woman. Top
that! He will be missed by mom, us boys, his grandson, grandog and everyone that called him Uncle Willie!
A funeral service for William will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Hardage - Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Following the funeral service will be a committal service at Greenlawn Cemetery, Jacksonville, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
