William David “Dave” McBroom passed away peacefully on October 11, 2012 in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 67. A native of Cookeville, TN, and attended the University of Tennessee. Dave proudly served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, was honored with numerous medals and accommodations and was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam before, eventually retiring as a Major. He was a man who truly epitomized the ideals of giving back and service to others. Always extending a helping hand to others, Dave gave jobs and second chances to those with troubled pasts, and gave his time, energy and money to countless charities and causes. As an avid pilot, boater, and motorcyclist, Dave believed in living life “large”. Words cannot describe the depth of his character or the void he will leave. He spent his lifetime giving to others.
As President of Sunbeam Autobody, Inc., Dave was committed to raising the professional image of the collision repair industry. Through his guidance and leadership, the Florida Autobody Collision Alliance (FACA) was formed. FACA grew from three body shop owners having coffee once a month, to more than 400 members and 6 chapters throughout the state.
Dave leaves behind his running buddy and wife Therese “Terri” Walker McBroom, sister Marilyn Joyce “Joby” Cloutiaux; children Kevin McBroom (Pam), Stephanie Nelson (John) and Amy Helms (Alan) of South Carolina; niece Shayne Harris (Kirk), nephew Robin Trousdale (Sonia); grandniece and nephew Ashley Pelfrey and Clayton Hopper. As “Pap”, he will be missed by his adoring grandchildren Andrew, Isaac, Kingston, Winston, Ally, Abby, Lily, Lyla, William, Ashlyn, and Lexy.
Visitation will be held from 6-9pm on Wednesday, October 17th, in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 18th in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Interment will be held at a later date in Double Springs Cemetery of Cookeville, TN.
