William Holland Kemp Jr., 63, loving husband of 36 years to Alison Cummings Kemp and devoted father to Elizabeth Frances Lambert Kemp and John William “Jack” Kemp, died suddenly March 21, 2021. The family will host a viewing on Sunday, March 28 from 5pm to 7pm at the Legacy Lodge at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel & Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. Rev. Barry Townsend will officiate a graveside service on Monday, March 29 at 11am, also at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel & Oaklawn Cemetery.
Born and raised in the San Marco area of Jacksonville, FL, William graduated from The Bolles School and Florida State University. At Florida State he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. After college, William followed in his stepfather’s footsteps as a polygraph examiner, ultimately opening his own firm. In 1991 he began a 23-year career with AT&T, followed by these past five years in surveillance at Best Bet. For more than 20 years, William served his community as an election poll worker, rising to the role of manager of Precinct 505. William was a dedicated son, husband, and father. His children were the center of his world. William’s kindness, devotion to loved ones, and dry sense of humor will be greatly missed.
William was preceded in death by his father, William Holland Kemp, Sr.; his stepfather, John David McCoy, Jr.; and his sister, Florence Holland “Holly” Kemp Hadden. Other survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Rush McCoy; brother Bryan Lambert McCoy (Liz); two stepbrothers, J. Daniel McCoy (Denise) and John David McCoy III; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions made to one of two charities close to William’s heart: North Florida School of Special Education (northfloridaschool.org) and Tom Coughlin Jay Fund (tcjayfund.org).
