William J. Carter Sr. passed away November 10, 2015 at his home after a long illness. He was born September 13, 1935 in Middleburg, Florida. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 62 years Edna; daughter Debbie Sapp (Ron); sons William “Peanut” Carter Jr. and Mike Carter; granddaughter Saralyn Grass (Gabe). He was preceded in death by his parents Elsie and Norman Rock, as well as his first born son, Gary Carter. Willie drove stock cars back in the 50’s and 60’s and won many races at Jax Speedway and other tracks. Known for his fearlessness, he was known far and wide as “Wild Willie Carter”. He was also a master carpenter and later General Superintendent of construction for M&S Construction, before retiring. After that, he became a self-taught expert on CB radios and was sought out for that expertise by many a CB enthusiast. He was also a Mason and President (as well as honoree) of Jax Speedway Hall of Fame. He will be missed by his family but always close in their hearts. The family would like to add a special thanks to his caregivers; Annett, Kat, and Martha, who assisted his wife in giving him the most excellent care over the past several years and to the VITAS Hospice Staff who lovingly cared for the whole family. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the services at Riverside Memorial Park.
