Dr. William N. Abood, aged 92, passed away June 28, 2013 after a brief illness. Born March 21, 1921 in Jacksonville, he was predeceased by his parents, Namy and Naseema Abood, his wife, Lola, his brothers, Richard, George and Toofy (TN), and sisters Amelia and LaVera. He is survived by his sisters Mary Shaia, Cleveland, Ohio and Emily Helow, Jacksonville, FL, sister-in-law, Alice Abood and many nieces and nephews.
A graduate of St. Paul's High School class of 1939, he received his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame University and his Dentistry degree from Loyola University, Chicago, IL. He served two years as an officer and dentist in the US Army, earning the rank of Lieutenant. Dr. Abood practiced dentistry over 50 years until his retirement in 2003. He was an avid Notre Dame football supporter, loved the game of golf, making 3 holes in one over his lifetime.
He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
The family extends their special appreciation to Dr. Louis Akra who was his close friend and physician and to Lito Mendoza and Bessie Bartley for their loving care and commitment to him as a friend and caregiver for many years.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 2 from 6-7PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Homes, 4115 Hendricks Avenue. A Vigil Service will begin at 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 3 at 10AM at Assumption Catholic Church with Father Fred Parke as Celebrant. Committal services will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
