William Huntington Abney, III, (“Hunt” or “Bill”) was born August 15th, 1967, in Tallahassee, Florida, and passed away on Monday, November 9th, 2021, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 54. He is survived by his wife, Laura, and son, William (age 10); mother Mary Maultsby (Charles), brothers George Abney (Amy, Marilyn, Sydney, Sam) and Clarence Brown (Caroline, Rachel, Mary), and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Bill was a loving husband, father, son, and brother. He was a graduate of Columbia High School in Lake City, Florida (1985), and the University of North Florida (1997). He served as a Police Officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for over 17 years. As a Police Officer he had the honor and privilege of serving with many brave men and women for whom he cared very much.
Bill enjoyed weightlifting, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his wife and son. As a family, they loved going to Disney World, the beach, and family gatherings. Bill always cherished the time he spent with William — camping, riding bikes, playing video games, and just hanging out. Bill was a faithful Christian, who attended Deermeadows Baptist Church with his family, and he was beloved member of his church community. He enjoyed serving others through his work with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and his church.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 16th, at Deermeadows Baptist Church, 9780 Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville, FL. 32256. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:30am, with funeral services beginning at noon. A committal service will occur Tuesday, November 16, 2021 immediately following at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 SAN JOSE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32207.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial donations to Deermeadows Baptist Church.
