Wayne Douglas Atwood

Wayne Douglas Atwood, 56, passed away on May 28, 2016. He was born in Ohio to Roy C. and Charleen Hellums Atwood. Wayne graduated from Valdez High School in Alaska and attended the University of Florida, as well as Central Michigan University where he obtained his Masters in Administration. He served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Kansas and California before settling in Florida in 1996. Wayne retired from the U.S. Navy in 2003 where he then started working for the Duval County School Board. He loved cooking, fishing, gardening, wood-working and was an active member at Freedom Christian Fellowship Church. Wayne is survived by his wife, Lou Ann, children Alex, Doug, and Megan; his parents, brother, Mark (Magda); and nephews, Jason (Lauren) and Jeffery. He is pre-deceased by his oldest brother, Ken. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 2, 2016 in Freedom Christian Fellowship Church, 3423 Loretto Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32223.
