Walter Lee Williams, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, September 30th doing what he loved, boating down the St. John’s River. Whether it was boating, flying or barefoot water skiing you could be sure to always find him living each day to the fullest. Williams was born on June 25, 1936 to Walter and Etta Williams. From a young age, Walter’s entrepreneurial spirit was evident. Growing up inspired by a father who also was in real estate, he would enter the real estate industry later on and leave an impact that will not be forgotten. From expanding a one room office on Casset Avenue to 13 offices spanning Jacksonville to Palm Coast. His home grown Jacksonville spirit would also shine as he would eventually become Jacksonville City Council President and pave the way for the consolidation of the city of Jacksonville. He would also serve on the Board of Boy Scouts of America, as a member of Westside Rotary, and president of the NE Florida Board of Realtors. As a part of his time on the Jacksonville Electric Authority Board, he would also be awarded the congressional energy efficiency award. On top of his many accomplishments, in his early years, Walter also served in the marines. In his free time, Walter could be found spending time with his seven grandchildren, his pride and joy. He spent many trips flying his family and grandkids to Green Turtle Cay Bahamas and was always sure to enjoy a pina colada while he was there. Walter celebrated 23 years of marriage with his beloved wife Sherry this year.
Walter is predeceased by his parents Walter and Etta Williams and brother Jerry Williams. Walter is survived by his wife, Sherry Williams, his daughter Monica Hentschel, his son, Tripp Williams, his brother, Kent Williams, his sisters, Jean Powers and Gay Kennedy. He also leaves behind his two step sons, John Hamm and Lee Petty, his seven grandchildren, Austen, Walker, Bella, Alex, Rylee, Tyler, and Caleb, as well as many other loving family members and friends.
