Virginia “Ginny” Somora, 81, of Jacksonville passed away Friday, July 15, 2016. Born in Macon, Georgia she was a daughter of the late Henry and Myrtle Webster. Ginny moved to Jacksonville while she was young. Ginny became a star on the basketball team at Andrew Jackson High School, where she graduated in 1953. Soon the spotlight shifted from sports to creating an environment that her beloved children Jeffery, David, and Judy could flourish in. Her genuine smile and laughter continued to warm the atmosphere in her later years at Hurley Manor and Taylor Residences, where she invited many friends, grandchildren, and a great grandchild to piece together puzzles, or play cards and her favorite, dominos. Ginny made many friends along the way while working in the nursery at St. Paul United Methodist Church, as a member of Arlington Baptist Church and while living at Hurley Manor and the Taylor Residences and will be missed by all who knew her. From the most modest beginnings Ginny created and lived the American Dream for herself and her family.
Surviving are her children, Jeff (Vicki) Somora and Judy Hartmann; grandchildren, Camille (Garry) Jean-Gilles, David (Erica) Hartmann, Tyler Somora and Anna Somora; great-grandson, Jeremy Jean-Gilles. Also surviving are seven (7) Nieces; Linda Jennings, S. Kay (Lamar) Wheeler, Donna (John) Jennings, Pam (Rick) Wages, Patty Jennings, Debbie ( Doug) Cullen and Terry (Ronnie) Standridge and their families. Also surviving one (1) Nephew Richard Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Somora, her sisters Glenda W. Croft and Gloria W. Duncan.
