Virginia Rose Levitt, 86, of Pickens, South Carolina, and formerly of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024. She was born on May 31, 1938, to Floyd and Lydia Mae French in Palestine, Arkansas. She graduated from Wheatley High School and was married to Wayne Martin Levitt, her high school sweetheart for over 50 years. Later, they moved to Jacksonville, Florida where they started their family.
Virginia lived her entire life serving others. She was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and remained active in her church, Englewood Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday school and served in Christian ministries for many years. In her younger years, Virginia enjoyed playing tennis and staying physically active. After moving to South Carolina to live with her daughter and family, she was instrumental in the home schooling and Christian education of her three youngest grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Suzy) Levitt, daughter, Alisa (Pete) Fernstrom and five grandchildren; Christopher (Lauren) Levitt, Courtney Levitt, Allison (Luke) Burton, Zoey Fernstrom and Anders Fernstrom. She is also survived by her sister Gussie Michaelis and her brother Anthony French, both of Goodwin, Arkansas.
A memorial service to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Oaklawn Cemetery, (Legacy Chapel / Lodge) located at 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida beginning with casual visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. service. There will be another celebration of life service at her church in South Carolina, Mile Creek Baptist Church, at a later date.
