i served with Master Chief on The Doyle and looked up to him as the kind of guy I wished I could be.  He was a very respected man and made me think of him as a John Wayne mans man type.  You didn't want to show weakness when he was around and at the same time you could joke and cutup with him like he was a long time friend.  He was the first one to PIN my ESWS pin on me.  He was very much one for tradition.  He will be sorely missed.

To the Family of Master Chief Timothy Walsh, I want to offer my deepest condolences on the loss of this great Sailor, Leader and Shipmate.  In an earlier comment, I wanted those who knew him in the Navy to recall that when he was a Senior Chief, he was my only Chief that I qualified as an underway OOD in USS DOYLE, and those who know me, understand that qual didn't come easily.  I have fond memories of his taught watches on deck and in port.  One of my best memories are from a night he had duty and we had a tropical storm blow up in Mayport, and he was the duty section leader.  The CDO was reluctant to call me but then Senior Chief Walsh insisted and I came in.  We got the engines and generators on line with the duty section and were ready to get underway.  Could not have happened without his leadership on the deckplates and his commitment to training his men.  Farewell my friend and Shipmate.   David B. Adler, Captain, USN Retired.

Tim was one of the best Chief's I have ever known. I had the privilege to serve with him on my last tour aboard USS Doyle.  He taught a lot of sailors including me “The Right Way”.
