Thomas Humphry Johns, 89, died September 1, 2017 with his loving family at his side. He leaves his wonderful memories to his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann, his son Edward, his daughter, Julia and his six grandchildren; Patrick, Megan, Tom, Connor, Kathryn and Katie.
Tom was born on January 4, 1928 in Hollis Long Island, New York to Julia and Lee Roy Johns. While on this earth, he lived an exciting childhood in Chicago, Illinois growing up playing pool and bowling. His family moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida and he became an alumni an avid fan of the University of Florida. “Go Gators”! Tom and Mary Ann moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1960 where he worked for Barnett Bank for 25 years and earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Virginia.
Tom’s true passion was his family. Tom’s family meant everything to him. After he retired, he busied himself helping out with his grandchildren, whom he adored. He attended every soccer game, baseball game and dance recital. His family counted on him to chaperone field trips and throw exciting family reunions. That is when he was most happy.
He proudly served his community as an Elk, serving as Exalted Ruler, as well as, every other office available. He was also an usher an usher at the Church of the Redeemer for many years.
Memorial Services will be held September 23, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery at 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32207. (904) 396-2522.
