Teresa Marie Akers Thompson

Teresa was born November 27, 1960, to Phyllis Ann Ward and Sonny Leroy Akers, in Kingsport, Tennessee. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. Teresa was strong, vivacious, courageous, and fun. When she loved, she loved madly and deeply. She believed in destiny…that life is not merely a series of accidents, but that God works in all things, be them good or bad. She took care of the people she loved and wanted them to understand their worth and purpose in this life. She never asked for anything and never wanted to be a burden, not knowing that SHE herself was worthy of anything and everything that could ever be given to her. She was adored by many and to describe her in a single word…she was simply “captivating”.

Teresa was preceded in death by her father, Sonny Leroy Akers, her mother, Phyllis Ann Ward Lamm, her three brothers, Rocky Lee Akers, Stephen Lynn Akers, and Sonny Lee Akers. She is survived by the love of her life, Paul Elijah Martin, her daughters, Sarah Ann Nicole Akers and Stephanie Lynn Akers, her step-children, Jessica Martin Ellerbee and Addam Martin, her step-grandchildren, Caleb Ellerbee, Cohen Ellerbee, and June Ellerbee, her sister, Wendy Rene’ Ashby Furey, her brother-in-law, Timothy Joseph Furey, her nieces, Ashley Marie Chivalette, and Sarah Danielle Chivalette.

A service will be held on July 25, 2021, at 10:00 am, graveside at Mandarin Cemetery located at 12135 Mandarin Rd., Jacksonville, FL, 32223. Flowers can be sent to Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn at 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL, 32207. Following the service, will be a Celebration of Life at 310 2nd Street South, Unit A5, Jacksonville Beach, FL, 32250. Please honor her by wearing “happy” pastel colors/florals.
