Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Sylvia Rose Peeples, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on December 2, 2024. She was 90. She was also known as Nan to her family. As an animal lover, aka the cat lady, she fed and cared for 24 feral cats, eventually having them all spayed/neutered. Today there are only 3 feral cats remaining at her home.
Sylvia(Sally) was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada to Ivy and Stanley Ough on May 12, 1934. She had four sisters and one brother; Audrey, Shirley, Gloria, Sidney and Judy. The family moved from Canada to Jacksonville, Florida when Sally was 13.
She married her soulmate, Harold J. Peeples, Sr. on March 18, 1954 and as a homemaker, went on to raise two children, Teresa Blanton(Jo), and Harold Peeples Jr. They travelled the United States as an Air Force family, retiring in Jacksonville in 1968. At which time they purchased 5 acres of land on Jacksonville's Westside and built a home. She enjoyed long walks, shopping at the mall every weekend, and family get-togethers.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Peeples Sr., and her grandson, Jason M. Peeples (Rebecca). She is survived by her children, Teresa(Jo) Blanton, Harold Peeples Jr; grandchildren, Justin Bellamy, Brian Peeples and Erik Peeples and 10 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Community Hospice at Ascension St. Vincent's-Riverside for their kind and loving care.
A graveside service for Sylvia will be held Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
