Sylvia M. Ashby, 92 years, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on October 10, 2022 in Atlantic Beach, FL. Mom is now finally at rest in Heaven and under the everlasting arms of God. She was born July 13,1930 in Lancaster Kentucky, and was the daughter of Robert and Della Naylor. She attended Bethel Baptist College in Hopkinsville, Ky for two years, graduating with her Associates degree. She went on to Georgetown Baptist College in Kentucky where she completed her education with a major in Business and a Minor in Christian Education, receiving her B.S. degree. While at Georgetown, she met her husband, Bill. They married June 1,1951; they were married for 62 years. She worked with the Kentucky Baptist Convention, Georgia Baptist Convention, and was the administrative secretary at Florida Baptist Convention. Sylvia served as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Director in virtually every church they served.
She was a Co-Department Director of the senior division of Women at First Baptist Church. She completed nearly 60 years of ministry through Sunday School. Her first years were with the young people where she taught in VBS, BYPU,YWA and Sunday School. Sylvia viewed her faithful service as a calling. She dedicated her life to the Lord in whatever way he wanted her to serve.
Sylvia was honored and cherished. She was a wonderful mother who was there when we needed her, demonstrated her love with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sylvia enjoyed cooking, sewing and spending time with family. Moms presence always warmed our home with peace, comfort, and tender love. She had a giving nature and enjoyed providing a meal and visiting with others. Sylvia had many friends and was well-loved and honored in her community and church. Quotes from friends,“ Your sweet fragrance brought kindness and care.” and “A special lady who was a great friend, mentor and inspiration.” She loved her family and was the example of a Proverbs 31 wife and mother.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Ashby; and one brother, Bobby Naylor.
Surviving family members include her four children Rick Ashby (Ginna Ashby),Randy Ashby (Teresa Ashby),Robbie Ashby Dunn (John Dunn) and Rodney Ashby; seven grandchildren Alan Ashby (Lacy), David Ashby (Mae), Marjorie Ashby Davis (Mike), Kurt Randall Ashby, Keri Ashby, and Brent and Brad Quinn; six great-grandchildren Kate Ashby, Ryan Ashby, Steven Ashby, Madison Ashby, Walker Davis and Mary Virginia Davis; one sister-in-law, Mirtie Naylor; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Sylvia will be held Monday, October 17, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Hardage - Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. A funeral service will occur Monday, October 17, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A committal service will occur Monday, October 17, 2022 at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
