On June 27, 2022, Susan Sager Stein, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her partner Arnold Kapiloff, two sons Dr. Michael Kogan (Michelle) and Dr. Steven Kogan (Marsha), and grandsons Nick Kogan (Erin), Josh Stein, Wyatt Kogan, and Emmett Kogan. Susan is mourned by a large family and many dear friends, whose shared lives reach back into childhood and span generations. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Dr. Joel Stein who preceded her in death.
Susan was born in Jacksonville on September 8, 1940, to Alice and “Sonny” Sager, of blessed memory. She was a gifted musician and a beacon of style, culture, beauty, and grace. Her whole life was dedicated to others and their happiness which made life beautiful for all who knew her. Susan blossomed as a single mother and established her career serving the local arts community, as executive director of the Jacksonville Symphony and thereafter as late Mayor Tommy Hazouri’s secretary of cultural and community affairs. She and Joel enjoyed a wonderful life with their combined families for over 30 years. Susan was blessed to connect with Arnold Kapiloff, a longtime family friend who was also recently widowed. They found love yet again in each other as they enjoyed many travels and adventures.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 am on Thursday, June 30, 2022, with a reception to follow at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
