Simmons - Shirley Agnes Curtis, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Baptist Heart Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Shirley A Simmons was born March 10, 1938 in Swanville, Maine, the daughter of Clinton and Lillian Curtis. She was united in marriage to Pearl Andrew Simmons Jr., on October 20, 1957 in Waldoboro, Maine. He preceded her in death April 8, 2011. They were married for 53 years.
She is survived by her five daughters and spouses; Darlene (Gary) Woodhams, Jacksonville, FL, Donna Simmons, Jacksonville, FL, Debra Simmons, Hilliard, FL, Dena (Jimmy) Shinholster, Cumming, GA, Dianne Simmons, Jacksonville, FL; loving grandchildren, Andy (Misty) Simmons, Michelle Woodhams, Gary Dean Woodhams, Jr., Heather Cannon, Brandon Shinholster, Bryan Shinholster, Bradley Shinholster, Amanda Erbaugh, Blake Erbaugh; and two great granddaughters, Macy and Megan Simmons.
An accomplished, gifted mother and homemaker, Shirley enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She had an unwavering faith in God. She enjoyed reading, doing her daily crossword puzzles and watching the deer, squirrels and birds from her kitchen window. Shirley was a wonderful mother and person who showed love to everyone. She was beautiful inside and out. She loved life, her husband, family and friends, and she said she wouldn’t have done anything different with her life. She was blessed.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Shirley’s life to be held at the Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd, on Saturday, October 31st at 2:00 pm. At a later date, Shirley along with her husband, will be intererred at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
