Shannon Von (Brown) STEWART was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 30, 2014. She was at home and surrounded by her loving family. Shannon was born in the middle of a snowstorm on February 16, 1969 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In 45 short years, Shannon touched many lives with her humor and her generosity. She was passionate about her family and her community: tirelessly and willingly contributing her many gifts to her children’s schools, her neighborhood, her church, and anyone she encountered in life. Shannon could always be identified by her signature laugh. Her focus was always on making others have joy, happiness and compassion; and never on her own needs.
Shannon’s community service included volunteering at Twin Lakes Academy Elementary School during the time her two children were enrolled there. In recognition of her service, she received the Kay Coppola award because of her many selfless qualities. She served as President of the PTA and was chosen as volunteer of the year for the 2011-2012 school year. She also served as the President of the PTA at Twin Lakes Academy Middle School for the 2013-2014 school year.
Shannon will best be remembered for the positive attitude and strong faith she maintained as she battled cancer. She created a lasting impact for all who knew her personally and the many who prayed for her without ever meeting her. The family wants to acknowledge her doctor, Frank Healy, and thank him for the care, support and comfort he provided for Shannon.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Stewart, and their two children, Courtney and Cameron; her father, Walter Brown; her brothers, Mark Brown (Jean) and Christopher Brown (Tia); her sister Rebecca Brown Vondra (Steve); and her nieces and nephews: Dalton, Kendall, Douglas, Hunter, Caitlin, and Sean. She is preceded in death by her mother, Jane McCracken Brown.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4th at six o’clock in the evening at Christ’s Church, 6045 Greenland Rd. in Mandarin. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Twin Lakes Academy Elementary School PTA and mailed to the school at 8000 Point Meadows Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Please indicate “Shannon Stewart Fund.”
