Scott Palmer Frye, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on January 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Despite being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Scott fought bravely for over 3 years, enjoying every moment he could spend with his family. Scott was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He was taught from a young age by his parents to cherish life and live every day like it was his last, and he followed that ideal every day. He was an accomplished golfer, winning multiple amateur events and city titles. After graduating from Englewood High school, he attended Jacksonville University on a golf scholarship, where he became the first golfer in JU history to qualify for NCAA tournament. After a professional golf career, he decided to settle down in Jacksonville, where he met the love of his life, Norma Jean Bateh. The two were married for over 38 years and had three children. A well-respected member of the community, Scott worked in the insurance industry for over 40 years. He started his own independent insurance agency, Frye Insurance Agency, which he operated for over 25 years until his retirement in 2022. Scott was a die-hard Gator fan, and a Florida football season ticket holder for more than 40 years. Scott was also an avid fisherman, and he loved spending time on his boat, which he appropriately (or inappropriately) named “Fore Play”. He and his fishing team competed in local kingfish tournaments, winning multiple events, and earning several top 5 finishes. But of all his interests, Scott’s biggest hobby was his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with his wife and children, whether it was out on the golf course, on the boat, attending Gator football games, trips to Ireland to see his daughter, or just spending time at home. He was the ultimate family man and could never stop talking about how proud he was of his children. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Rex and Isadean “Dee” Frye, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Shihadeh “Jr.” and Naheel Bateh. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Bateh Frye, his three children Cameron Frye (Maja), Mallory Frye (David Way), Palmer Frye (Emily), brother Michael Frye (Barbara), brother-in-law Dr. Norman Bateh (Marlene), sister-in-law Cynthia Bateh and two nieces Drs. Laurie Bateh and Amanda Bateh and many other friends and relatives. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at St. John The Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 12760 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32246, Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Father Nicholas Louh will lead funeral services at 11:00 a.am., with interment to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Arrangements by Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32211.
