Samuel Clayton Cooney, age 87, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born December 26, 1925 to the late William Franklin and Zollie Alice Lillian (Lambert) Cooney in Rose Hill, VA. Samuel was a veteran of the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged from the military, he went on to obtain his private pilot license and became a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He worked for Publix as a produce manager for 18 years before retiring from the Kinglsey Ave. store in Orange Park, Florida in 1988. He will dearly be missed by his loving wife of 44 years Juanita Cooney; two sons Sammy Cooney(Pam) and Clayton Cooney(Kaila); three daughters Terrie Johnson(Gary),Karen O’Grady (Dave), and Kimberly Cooney; one brother Bob Cooney; one sister Sue Cooney; fourteen grandchildren James, Jillian, Lance, Austen, Ashlyn, Caleb, Jake, Cameron, Cassidy, Emily, Ashley, Hayley, Corey, and Mackenzie; great grandchild Jayden. Family will receive friends and family 6:00 – 8:00pm. Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Hardage-Giddens Town& Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 16, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the services in Riverside Memorial Park.
