Ruth Young

Ruth Young,87, went to be with the Lord on September 18th, 2011 at Acosta-Rua Center for Caring, surronded by family. She grew up in Broxton, GA on a farm. Ruth graduated from Broxton High School, met and dated the man she was to marry. After working briefly in Atlanta, she married the love of her life, Edison Young, in 1943. Durring W W II they both worked as welders on the Liberty Ships until the war was over. She began motherhood and had two daughters. Being a homemaker she enjoyed taking care of her husband and children. Her church life included Women's Home and Foreign Missions, Missions Loyal Workers for Children and was a Deaconess in her chruch. Girl Scouts, Band and school activites with her children filled her life. She loved sewing clothes for the girls. Her home was always open and her table was always spread. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband Edison; 5 brothers, Herbert, Carl, Henry, M.H. and Pat; 2 sisters, Alice Patton and Lois Lot; and son-in-law Chuck Gordon. She is survived by daughters, Diane Woodall, her husband Don and Sandra Gordon; her sisters, Doris Deen, Nola Harper and sister-in-law, Gladys Harrell; 5 grandchildren, Scott Woodall, Jennifer Woodall Scott (husband Nathan), Jeff Woodall (wife Chelsea), Josh Gordon (wife Erin), and Dustin Woodall (wife Liz); and 7 1/2 great-grandchildren, Christopher Woodall, Cierra Woodall, Jonas Scott, Eli Scott, Neveah Woodall, Winston Scott, Ameila Gordon and birth due in Dec., Christine "Ruth" Woodall... She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24th, 2011 at West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church, 8376 Normandy Blvd. Interment will be at Riverside Memorail Park. The family will receive friends Friday, September 23rd, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church.
