Ruth Monroe Currier-Gray, 98, passed away Monday, September 5, 2011 at Palm Gardens Jacksonville Nursing home. Born July 25, 1913 in Massachusetts, she completed her high school education. While working at a local factory and living in a boarding house, she fell in love with a soldier, Robert H. Gray whom became her husband, then spent her life with him in Rainelle, West Virginia as a homemaker until his death in 1980. She remained widowed and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.
Ruth commuted between Rainelle, and Stuart, Florida where she lived in the winter months for over 25 years. Enjoying world traveling with others in her condominium complex, she visited many European countries and Asia. Serving her community, she volunteered as a hospice and meals-on-wheels delivery service. Her activities included reading, swimming, exercise, knitting, but most importantly, a part of the bridge club….her favorite activity. In both states, she was a bit of a “social butterfly”. As a member in good standing of the Methodist Church, she also volunteered for various activities.
After cremation, Ruth’s remains will be dispersed over the Atlantic Ocean per her request. This will be a private ceremony of the remaining immediate family.
She is survived by her son, Donald and his wife, Sherry, 5 grandchildren (Ryan, Mark, Steven, Shawn and Lori) and 7 great grandchildren; Brenda, the widow of her son William, and many nieces and nephews in New Hampshire and the New York vicinity.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The First Baptist Church Callahan, 45090 Green Street, Callahan, Florida 32011 and dedicated in her name to the Missions Fund.
