The journey began on January 15, 1923 in Free Soil Michigan. Rose Pekarchik was born to William and Karolina Pekarchik, Czechoslovakian immigrants. Rose was the fifth born of eight children, seven girls and one boy.
Raised on a small farm with her siblings, their duties were to plant, grow and survive. Her humble beginnings crafted her character and work ethic. Rose was the salutatorian of her high school class, but this small town environment could not contain her adventurous spirit.
Like many other members of “the greatest generation” this country has ever produced she answered the call of her country in need and joined the United States Navy. Stationed in San Francisco awaiting deployment, Rose met the love of her life Dennis Doyle Sr. They were married in 1946. In 1948 William Leigh Doyle was the firstborn of seven siblings.
After serving in World War II, Dennis and Rose returned to their roots in Petersburg Virginia where Dennis continued the operation of a family tobacco farm. The tedium of the tobacco farm carried the day and they subsequently invested in a motel and a gas station. Wonderlust struck again. They bought a travel trailer and headed to California by way of Miami with their first born son Billy. A job offer in the insurance industry in Jacksonville Florida ended their California dreaming. Dennis accepted the position and began a lifelong career in Insurance. He represented Reserve Life, CNA, the Continental Casualty Group and other reputable companies. His only employee and de facto partner was Rose. In addition to that role, Rose’s greatest accomplishment was bearing and raising seven children. A more gifted and natural mother has never graced the earth. Rose’s endearing and overwhelming gift was the ability to love everyone she touched especially her children. She had a unique ability to love all of her children equally and unconditionally. Rose was indeed an incredible person. She lived a life totally dedicated to her children. Rose was selfless and demure, she had grace and a spirit that flowed from within. She was classic and gracious with strength, fortitude and dignity. She was unaware of this because she was selfless and humble, truly humble.
The family grew rapidly and now includes 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Rose was predeceased by her loving husband Dennis Sr. and her eldest son William Leigh Doyle (Judy). Rose is survived by her 6 children and Billy‘s loving spouse Judy: Dennis Doyle Jr. (Robin); Rosemary Howard Johnson (Jerry ); Donna Doyle Flanagan (Flagg); Connie Marie Doyle (Oliver); John Ashton Doyle(Eileen); Susan Doyle Galant (Geoff).
Rose’s legacy will live forever. In her loving memory we submit this memoir, The Doyle Siblings
