Rosalie Foy Andrews passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024. She was born June 18, 1930 in Jacksonville Beach, FL, the oldest of eight children to loving parents Robert Moses and Catherine (Oldham) Foy.
From early on, Rosalie’s life revolved around her family and her faith. She helped care for her 7 siblings and cooked Sunday dinners for the family. She was raised in the Catholic faith, walking ten blocks to church every Sunday. Rosalie’s passion for family eventually blossomed into one of her own making when she met Bill Andrews in 1947 and married him three years later in the Rectory of St Paul’s Catholic Church. Mark, Mike, Susan and Tim soon followed. Rosalie never described motherhood as an easy job, but she took on the challenge with determination and care. With four children in a two-bedroom home, she kept everyone clean and fed, facilitated after school activities, and instilled each of her children with a sense of duty, a love for God, and strong family values. She took care to ensure her children always had a warm meal – even when they were caught sneaking back in after a night out.
A caretaker at heart, Rosalie had wanted to become a nurse. While life took her on a different path, she certainly fulfilled her desire to care for others. She looked after neighbors, friends, and family alike, never asking for anything in return. She sat with the lonely, assisted the ill and injured, and brought warm meals to those without. She knew her neighbors well, and she kept up with families long after their kids had grown. She was involved in her church and knew the goings on of the parish nearly as well as she knew the neighborhoods. Her spirit of generosity laid a cornerstone for her children, who have each embodied their mother’s caring nature in their own ways.
Throughout the nine decades of her life, Rosalie never wavered in the values she held most dear – her Faith and her family. She took great pride in seeing her children forge their own paths and find their happiness. She cheered her grandkids on with pride as they pursued degrees and families of their own. She made quilts out of her granddaughters’ childhood dresses, doted on her grandsons, and compiled a cookbook of her best recipes for her grandchildren – her famous spaghetti sauce included. She enjoyed morning walks in her neighborhood, outings with her Red Hat Club, traveling with her children and siblings, and spending time with family sharing stories and community news. She celebrated the beauty around her with joy and gratitude. And above all, she approached the world with the generosity and caring that can only come from a mother.
Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill Andrews; her son, Bill Jr; her sister Yvonne; her brothers Leslie, Larry and Joe Foy; and her beloved dog, Freckles. She is survived by her children Mark Andrews (Deborah), Mike Andrews (Maggie), Susan Graham (Jim), Tim Andrews (Shirley); her grandchildren Scott, Allison, Kourtney, Carlie, Mike Jr, Hunter, Katlin, Trevor, Willie & Micheline; her sister Catherine Krause; her brothers, Cecil and Bob Foy; her eight great-grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones. She once described the good life as one with a good place to live and children you can take care of who grow up to be good people. Rosalie knew the good life. May she joyfully enter heaven with a resounding “Ooh, that’s pretty” as she sees the pearly gates.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 16th, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church. Following the funeral mass, interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
