Ron was a general contractor, mortgage broker and real estate broker with his own company, Storn Construction. He then founded Independent Living Homes where he built and retrofitted homes for the disabled, which turned out to be his true calling. In addition to his volunteer appointments, he served as a Vice Chairman of the Mayor’s Disability Council, State Chairman of the Florida Homebuilders Association and served on the Board of Directors of the State Manic Depressive Association.
Ron was selected by the Department of Justice and the EEOC to be trained intensively by the Disability Rights, Education, and Defense Fund on the legal, architectural and construction specifications required by the Americans with Disability Act. This training was only provided to 100 individuals nationally. He will be remembered for being a champion to those with physical and mental impairments.
He will forever be a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Sharer; sons, Michael Smigmator and Johndavid Storn; grandchildren, Steven Smigmator, Wyeth Storn, Shawn Bonds and Crystal Winters; and two great grandchildren.
To celebrate his life there will be a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 17th at Egret Hall in Cypress Village, 4600 Middleton Circle East, Jacksonville, Florida.
Arrangements under the direction of Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, Jacksonville, FL.
