Born July 31, 1957 in Port Arthur, Texas, to the late Roland Raymond Patin and Flossie Theresa Patin. Thad graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School where he played the tuba in the marching band. He continued his education at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. After graduating he began his career as a Chemical Engineer at the Charleston Naval Shipyard where he also became the Head of Code 360. Closure of the shipyard lead Thad to Jacksonville, Florida where he was assigned to Naval Station Mayport. He was NAVSEA 05D Engineering Field Representative (EFR) for Surface Ship Maintenance. Thad had a passion for what he did and respected by the NAVSEA and NAVY community. Amongst his co-workers and friends, Thad was the "Big Dawg".
Thad was a man of pure love. Anyone who met him instantly fell in love with his personality and ability to brighten up a room just by being in it. He was always pouring into others and wanted to share all he had with his loved ones, especially his four grandkids. If he wasn’t with his friends at the bowling alley, bringing all the laughs to the casino tables, or attending every Lionel Richie and Elton John concert, he was so selflessly spoiling others in any and every way he could.
Thad is survived by his two children Roland Travis Patin and wife, Charlotte, of Fleming Island, Florida and Ashton Leigh Sparrow and husband Paul, of Kathleen, GA; brother Patrick Paul Patin and wife Genny of Port Arthur and brother Stephen Eric Patin of Nederland; grandchildren Roland Tripp Patin, Jayson Michael Patin, Harrison Warner Sparrow and Sutton Leigh Sparrow.
Visitation to celebrate the life of Thad will be held at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Florida on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm.
