With heavy hearts, we share the tragic news of the passing of Roberto Carlos Rodriguez Zayas, lovingly known as Robert. A long-time resident of Jacksonville, Florida, Robert was a devoted husband and a loving father who left us on December 24, 2024, at the age of 38 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Robert earned his High School Diploma from Camp Blanding and dedicated himself to serving his country by enlisting in the United States Army at the age of 17. He displayed extraordinary bravery during his tour of duty in Iraq. After his service, Robert found joy in spending quality time with his family and friends. Following years of courtship, he married the love of his life, and in 2019, he embraced fatherhood with immense pride. His son, affectionately called “El Nene de Papi,” or “Daddy’s Little Boy,” became the center of his world, a symbol of the love and devotion that defined his life beyond the military.
Robert held his family in the highest esteem, always treasuring the bonds that connected him to his loved ones. His mother, Sonia Zayas Gonzalez, who referred to him as “El Corazon de Mi Vida” was his pillar of strength, and he cherished their close relationship. He was “Tuti” to his sister, Sonibert Wood, who was both his confidante and constant source of support. Robert's dedication to his family and friends was evident in every aspect of his life.
In his professional life, Robert worked at All Pro Enclosures, where he was known for his dedication, hard work, and kindness. He had a great sense of humor that could light up any room, often making his colleagues laugh with his quick wit and infectious laugh. Whether through a playful comment or a funny story, Robert had a natural ability to bring joy to those around him. His commitment to—family, friends, and colleagues alike—was evident in everything he did. Robert’s warm heart, fierce loyalty, and strong work ethic left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Robert is survived by his devoted mother, Sonia Zayas Gonzalez; his father, Roberto Rodriguez Ocasio; his sister, Sonibert Wood (Adrian); his brothers, Roberto Rodriguez-Ortega, Randal Rodriguez-Ortega, and Reynaldo Rodriguez-Ortega; his wife, Lorraine; and his beloved children, Mateo Rodriguez, Stephanie Scheurer, and Tyler Scheurer. Nieces: Kalena Rodriguez VanBuskirk, Jada Wood. Nephew: Antonio Wood as well as many other extended family and friends.
Though his time with us was tragically cut short, his memory will live on forever in the hearts of all that cherished him.
Services will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home located at 940 Cesery Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32211 on Wednesday, January 8, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Graveside will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery located at 4083 Lannie Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32218.
