Steve is survived by his lifelong partner of 50 years, Jerry Alford; his Mom, Kathryn; brother, Chris and his wife Stella; and their 3 daughters, Sarah, Kristen, and Lauren. His father, Robert and sister, Vickie, pre deceased him.
Steve's family moved to Jacksonville in the late 50's. Steve graduated from Westside High and attended Jacksonville University. He left JU after 2 years to join the Ice Capades. He left the Ice Capades after 2 years to return to JU. He graduated in 1971 with a degree in Elementary Education.
Steve and Jerry moved to New York City where Steve taught 6th grade at Birch Wathen-Lenox School for 20 years, returning to Jacksonville to join the faculty of St. Mark’s Day School, where he taught 5th grade for 30 years before retiring in May. Steve was loved and respected by everybody whose life he touched. He will be greatly missed by all.
A funeral to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 4129 Oxford Avenue, Jacksonville Fl 32210, on June 17, at 10 a.m. The family has requested that face coverings be optional. The service will be live-streamed, and available for viewing on the St. Mark’s website. Following the service, all are welcome to join the family at a reception in Leatherbury Hall. A committal Service will be held at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32210, following the reception.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in loving memory of Steve may be made to ESJ St. Mark’s Campus, General Scholarship Fund.
