Bob was born in Jacksonville, FL, to Willie Pearl and James Pearson Sanders. His hobbies included boating, playing pool, car trading, garage selling and antiquing, playing and occasionally winning the lottery, and spending time with friends and family.
He attended Paxon High School and married his first wife, Gloria, in 1960. Although they later divorced, they remained lifelong friends. Bob’s professional history included more than 20 years of employment at Methodist Medical Center (later Shands Jacksonville). He also owned a lawn service and pursued several entrepreneurial ventures.
Bob was the kind of person who never met a stranger. Possessing the “gift of gab,” he loved a party, a great meal, and the chance to share a good conversation. His infectious smile and booming laugh brought joy to every room. He was, in short, the life of the party wherever he went.
Bob’s greatest loves were God, his country, and his family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeri Schaar, and his brothers, Buddy Johnson and Jimmy and Don (Pete) Sanders. He is survived by his youngest brother, Pastor Terry Sanders, who will lead the memorial service; his daughters, Leslie and Susan; and his grandchildren, Ashley, Douglas, Josh, TJ, Chelsea, Sam, and Hayley. Bob was also fortunate to meet and help raise several of his great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
Please share your photos, stories, and treasured memories on his memorial website. The family welcomes all who cherished him to join in celebrating his life.
