POLLOWING AN EXTENDED ILLNESS. A NATIVE OF JACKSONVILLE, HE ATTENDED
ROBERT E LEE H.S AND GRADUATED FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA WHERE HE
WAS A MEMBER OF THE BETA THETA PI FRATERNITY. HE WAS A HIGHLY DECORATED NAVAL AVIATOR DURING WORLD WAR II SERVING IN COMBAT AS A CARRIER FIGHTER PILOT ABOARD THE USS BELLEAU WOOD. HE RETIRED FROM THE NAVAL RESERVE AS LIEUTENANT COMMANDER.
HIS PROFESSIONAL CAREER INCLUDED DUTIES AS AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER WITH
THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION AND FOLLOWING RETIREMENT WAS
EMPLOYED BY JAX FEDERAL CREDIT UNION SERVING AS MANAGER FOR FOURTEEN
YEARS. HE CONTINUED HIS COMMITMENT TO THE CREDIT UNION SERVING ON THE
BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR MANY YEARS.
HE GREW UP IN THE RIVERSIDE METHODIST CHURCH AND LATER BECAME A MEMBER
OF ARGYLE CHURCH OF CHRIST.
HE WAS THE SON OF THE LATE EGBERT HENRY AND BESSIE LANG RHODES.HIS
SIBLINGS PRECEEDED HIM IN DEATH CLAUDE ANN HENDERSON, BESSIE ANGIE
RHODES, AND HUGH EGBERT RHODES.
SURVIVORS ARE HIS WIFE OF 48 YEARS MARTHA JANE RHODES, TWO DAUGHTERS
JANE LOUISE WALDMAN(CRAIG WILKENS) LAS VEGAS, NV. ROBIN LANG BROWN
(DUDLEY KEITH) JAX,FL AND SON RUSSELL ROBERT RHODES, JAX FL.
GRANDCHILDREN JACOB ROBERT BROWN, RACHEL LANG BROWN, JOSHUA THOMAS BROWN, LAINEY REBECCA WALDMAN.
VISITATION WILL BE HELD THURSDAY DECEMBER 18, 4-6 PM AT HARDAGE-GIDDENS EDGEWOOD AVE. JAX, FL 32205. A GRAVESIDE SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT HOMEWARD CEMETERY. IN LEIU OF FLOWERS DONATE TO A CHARITY OF YOUR CHOICE. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Chapel.
