Robert (Bob) Higginbotham was born in Baldwin, Florida on March 25, 1939 to Mamie Manning Higginbotham and Everett Louis Higginbotham, Sr. Bob passed away at his home this past Sunday July 3, 2022, at 83 years of age. In 1957, he graduated from Baldwin High School, served as a Page in the US House of Representatives, and started his long career with the railroad. Later in 1961, Bob met the love of his life, Jean, and was drafted into the US Army where he served in the U.S. Army Honor Guard at Fort Meyer, VA. He married Jean while still in the Army in 1962. He was very proud of the service he gave to the country and always wore his pin from the time he served as a Page. After the Army, he returned to Jacksonville, where he earned his bachelor degree from Jones College while attending night school and working full time for CSX. He built a very successful career at CSX from which he retired after thirty nine years of service in 1996.
Bob was a faithful and devoted Christian; he loved serving the Lord and attending Church. He was a member of Deermeadows Baptist Church for thirty years where he served in various capacities including as a deacon, Sunday School Director, and Treasurer. Over those same years, Bob served and cherished the local Deerwood community. He became a vital leader in the Deerwood homeowner’s association and at the Deerwood Country club where he fostered many great memories with friends on the golf course. Incredibly, he recently beat his age on the course, shooting an 81. He served both on the neighborhood’s and the club’s Board of Directors numerous times over the years. Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean; two brothers, Eddie and Harold; two daughters, Kimberly (Mason) and Tiffany (Tony); and three grandchildren, Noah, Madilyn, and Natalie. He loved them all beyond measure and spent every moment serving them and others. He was loved by all that knew him and will be incredibly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Deermeadows Baptist Church, 9780 Baymeadows Rd, Jacksonville, on Saturday, 7/9/22 at 11:00am for all family and friends.
