Robert Harrison went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 25, 2015. Robert was born on August 2, 1931 in Greenville, South Carolina and was the eldest son of the late Otto and Beatrice (Harbin) Harrison. He moved to Jacksonville in 1951 and later served in the U.S. Army as a medic. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Robert had a successful career in hospital administration starting his career as a purchasing manager. He was executive director at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville and later moved to Birmingham, Alabama where he was executive director of the Baptist Medical Centers. Upon returning to Jacksonville, he ended his career as chief executive officer at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Robert is preceded in death by his brother, James S. Harrison. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanne (Caudill) Harrison; a daughter Susie Darby; two grandsons Jay Wall and Curtis Darby. He is also survived by a sister, Faye Mahon of Greenville, South Carolina; and a brother, Randy Harrison of Jacksonville; sister-in-laws Wanda Harrison and Mickey Harrison; ten nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening at The Oaklawn Chapel on Thursday, October 1, 2015. Funeral services will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, October 2, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville (Hobson Auditorium). Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. Hardage-Giddens, The Oaklawn Chapel , 4801 San Jose Boulevard, is serving the family.
