Robert E. Harris

Robert E. Harris, Sr., age 76, November 4, 2016, Jacksonville, Florida. It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Harris (Bob) announces his recent passing. Mr. Harris was well respected for his infectious positive manner, his generous and kind heart and his sense of humor. He gave 32 years of service to CSX as a Railroad Engineer from which he retired in 2002 as his son was hiring on. The utmost joy of his retirement and his life was being able to spend quality time with his family. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1966 in the infantry and was stationed in Germany. This sparked a love of travel that spanned from the mountains of Tennessee to the Grand Canyon to multiple locations in Europe including his last trip to Italy in 2013 for the wedding of his daughter and son-in-law.

Mr. Harris is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Harris of Steele, Alabama, and Nancy Harris of Gadsden, Alabama; and his brother, Charles Harris of Vonore, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Harris of Jacksonville; his daughter, Pamela Denneny (Kevin) of Jacksonville; his son, Robert Harris, Jr. (Sheila) of Jacksonville; his three grandchildren, Bobby Harris, III of Tallahassee, Joshua Harris of Jacksonville, and Luke Harris of Jacksonville. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Peek (Herschel) of Marietta, Georgia; his brother, John Harris (Mary), of Vonore, Tennessee; along with his nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 7-9pm at Hardage-Giddens Hendricks Chapel, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 11:00am at Hardage-Giddens Hendricks Chapel with entombment following at Oaklawn Cemetery.
