Dick, as he was known to his family and friends, was born in Gary, Indiana and attended Illinois State University. He had a very successful career as an Account Executive at BellSouth for over 32 years. The last 12 years he enjoyed working at The Parts House in Jacksonville, Florida. The Jay fund was a beloved charity to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Smith and Mary Tatman Smith. He is survived by his wife, Fran Lyons Smith; sister, Mary Lynn Smith Boilini (Jim), and nieces, Gina and Christina.
