PETERS Richard Stephen, 64, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013 surrounded by family. Born on July 20, 1948 in Newark, New Jersey, Richard was a graduate of Lee High School and employed by Anheuser-Busch. Richard was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather (“Do-Dad”), and loving friend. Richard was a United States Air Force veteran, a member of Hyde Park Masonic Lodge, and Shriner. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, F. Richard and Mary Evelyn Peters, and is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Rebecca Powell Peters; his daughter, Laurie (Chad) Durrell and his two wonderful and adored grandchildren, Kylee and Cade; his beloved son, Christopher; Richard’s siblings, Lynn (Bob) Lemois, Robert (Patsy) Peters, and Nancy (David) Drewry; and his nieces and nephews. Richard is also survived by his beloved mother-in-law, Ella V. Powell; his dear friend, Mae-Mae; his “almost” daughter, Leigh Ann Nolan; “The Brothers of his Heart”, Jeff Long and Ed Belyew; and his extended family and adoring friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, January 17, 2013 from 5 to 6:30 at the funeral home. A funeral celebration honoring Richard’s life will be held Friday morning, January 18, 2013 at 10:00 at The Oaklawn Chapel with graveside Military and Masonic Rites to follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
