Richard E. Johnson, 87, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born April 2, 1926 to Ethel Lou Holt and Elias Jordan Johnson in Florence, SC. He joined the Navy at 16 and spent World War II in the Pacific. In 1956 he met his future wife Hildegard, in New York and married her in 1957. Still in the Navy, they moved to Key West. His next duty station was Jacksonville where he retired. Richard was a 32nd degree Mason for over 50 years. He loved hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hilda, many nephews and nieces, their children and many friends. Arrangements under the care of Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 12:00-1:00pm in the visitation room. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm following the visitation. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
