Ray was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He served his country with the US Army 9th MP Division, Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1968 to 1974. Everyone who met Ray knew he was a proud American patriot and learned how proud he was to have served and defended his country. He was a member of the VFW and American Foreign Legion.
Upon returning from his service in the US Army to St. Petersburg, Florida, Ray began his career in retail management with Eckerd Drugs. Ray later went on to join Wal-Mart as a district manager. His time with Wal-Mart took him from Florida to Massachusetts, New Jersey and across New England until his retirement in 2009.
After retiring Ray was excited to become a world traveler. Accompanied by his wife Crystal he traveled to 53 countries and 6 continents. He was able to return to Vietnam and revisit the villages he had served in so many years ago.
Ray was preceded in death by his mother Lois Ann Keener (Donel) and his father Warren Raymond Keener.
Ray’s life will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife Crystal Keener; his daughter, Lynne Keener; son, Raymond Scott Keener (Tamra); sister, Janice Keener; brother, Richard “Dick” Keener; grandchildren, Colton and Ashlyn Keener; and cousin, Rand Eakin.
Ray’s life will be remembered and a Committal Service will be held in his honor on April 30, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. with full military honors at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 SR 72, Sarasota, FL 34241 for his family and friends.
