Ray C. McClain, Sr., age 89, passed away August 25, 2018. Ray was born in Sabillasville, Maryland and was the son of the late Glenn Carlton and Catherine Jane (Moser) McClain. Ray lived in Wayne Heights (Waynesboro) PA., and graduated from Washington Township High School, where he was a member of the baseball team. After high school, Ray was employed by the First National Bank of Blue Ridge Summit, PA. In August 1950, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served his enlistment in Patrol Squadron Five (VP-5), Jacksonville, Florida, and was honorably discharged in June 1954. He and his wife, Jane McRee Melcolm, were married on February 14, 1953 and resided in Jacksonville, Florida since February 1955.
Ray served as an accountant with Jacksonville Paper Company (later Unijax and Unisource) from 1955 to 1992. In 1971 he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Jacksonville University. He was a member of Lake Shore United Methodist Church, the Chancel Choir, and United Methodist Men. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
Ray is survived by his wife Jane; his daughter Karen McClain Hamrick; son Ray C. McClain, Jr. (Rebecca); brother Glenn C. McClain, Jr.; sister Arlene McClain Pentz; and grandchildren Catherine Jane Hamrick Evans (Rev. Jared M. Evans), Kathleen McRee Hamrick, Christopher A. McClain (Lindsay), and Matthew G. McClain.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 2246 Blanding Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32210. A visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Lake Shore United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
