He graduated from high school in Fort Valley GA. He was married to Hazel Cherry Dyer for 50 years. From August 5, 1962 until her death on Nov. 12, 2012. Art made a career in the Navy as an aircraft metal smith (AMS1). He was stationed in California, Florida, Hawaii, Alaska, and The Philippines. He served aboard 5 different aircraft carriers, including deployments in Vietnam. After retiring from the Navy he embarked on another career as a golf course superintendent. He was superintendent at NAS Jax golf course until his retirement in 1984.
He had a passion for golf and fishing. He excelled at both. Later in life a new passion for volunteering and service became his focus. He volunteered with the Baptist Auxiliary at the downtown hospital, where he delivered flowers, and accumulated more the 10,000 hours of service.
He was a life long member of the United Methodist Church, and a member of Murray Hill UMC for over 20 years. He loved the Lord, and his church family at Murray Hill.
He is survived by his children Frank & Michael Cape and their families. Also, by his sister June Pace, and brother Charles Cape.
