Peggy Joanne Terry

Peggy and her husband Earl were married in 1951 and remained a devoted couple for 72 years. They had four sons, Robert, Charles, Chip and Ken. Peggy once joked that she tried four times to have a girl, but all she had was stinking rotten little boys…but she loved those boys ferociously like a mama bear loves her cubs. Peggy is survived by her brother Bobby, her husband Earl, children Charles, Chip and Ken. Grand children Rachelle, Olivia, Ashley, Kyle, Logan, Dillan, Caden, and great grandchild Todd.

Peggy went to Andrew Jackson High School and was accomplished at everything she set her mind to. She ran a pet shop when her and Earl were first married and soon after gave up that job to devote herself to being a mom. During that time, she groomed poodles and became an accomplished artist. Peggy was a member of the Jacksonville Artists Guild and sold many of her oil paintings during those years.

Peggy loved all of God’s creatures, she nursed a many a baby bird or injured squirrel back to health to set it free once more. When Peggy first met Earl, she had a St. Bernard name Duchess and a cinnamon ringtail monkey name Charlie. She raised a fox and a raccoon named Cooney. Peggy was very fond of birds and her parrot Polly could imitate her boys so well, a neighbor once thought one of her boys was hurt and being ignored, much to that neighbor’s surprise, it was the parrot imitating a crying baby.

After Peggy’s boys were raised, she went to work for Budd Mayer Company calling on Jacksonville grocery stores representing Tropicana Orange Juice. She did so well that she was put in charge of the frozen food accounts. Peggy won a number of awards and prizes for innovations she brought forward before retiring to spend more time with her grandchildren.

After retirement, Peggy began growing African Violets. She was so good at it, that she was featured on a local television show called “Hi Neighbor” hosted by Jim Watson who was the Duval County Agricultural Director.

Above all, Peggy was a good and kind Christian woman and was taken home after spending a lifetime serving the Father well.

A graveside service for Peggy will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
