of Sol Leibowitz and later, William Sederbaum, and dedicated mother of surviving son, Martin L. Leibowitz (Marcie) of Jacksonville, FL and daughters Susan Leibowitz of Jacksonville, FL; Ilene Schulman (Rick) of Atlanta, GA; Dana Esposito (Joe) of Jacksonville, FL; step-daughter Caroline Sederbaum; grandchildren Sean and Todd Leibowitz; Jason Green (deceased); Jessica Adams; Shea Schulman; Brooke Sakwa; Roth and Alec Esposito; and several great grandchildren, all of whom she loved and touched deeply. She treasured her entire family and embraced every moment spent with them, always offering emotional support and love. Pearl was predeceased by her first husband of 38 years, Sol Leibowitz, a New York City transplant who met Pearl while his Coast Guard Ship was docked at Mayport during WW-II; second husband, William Sederbaum (deceased); brother Morris Worman (deceased).
Pearl was a native of Jacksonville and a respected multi-location restauranteur as owner and mainstay of Jacksonville landmark, Worman’s Bakery & Delicatessen, for well over 60 of its near 100 year existence. The bakery was a local icon, known for its delicious baked goods and deli sandwiches and was a cornerstone of Jacksonville's culinary history. With its origins tracing back to the early 20th century, it played a significant role in the community for many years. Pearl loved working alongside her parents and founders of the bakery and deli, Sam and Rosa Worman, and interacting with customers, guiding them through the myriad epicurean delicacies offered.
Pearl also enjoyed her active membership in the community as a member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center, founding donor of Baptist Medical Center and founding member of the Jewish Community Alliance. Pearl, along with her brother Morris, took over the day-to-day operations from their parents, Samuel and Rosa Worman, continuing the legacy of this cherished local business.
Quick with her smile and laugh, her affable personality was warm, loving, and likely to leave you happier after meeting her. Her class and charm will be sorely missed by all who had the good fortune to cross her path.
Pearl passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024 in the company of family. A funeral procession will form at Hardage Giddens Oaklawn Chapel & Cemetery, 4801 San JoseBoulevard, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 10:45 AM, and leave at 11:00 AM. A memorial service and interment will follow at 11:30 AM, at the new Jacksonville Jewish Center Memorial Park (New Center Cemetery) of Evergreen Cemetery, 200 E. 43rd
