Paul Lewis Garvey, beloved husband of Judy Dunson Garvey, passed away peacefully on 11, April 2013 at the age of 95 years. Paul was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the eldest son of a railroad family, graduated from Tech High School and worked for Western Electric Company before serving in the South Pacific during WWII. Employing his understanding of telecommunications, Paul served four years and was stationed overseas with the 5th Army Air Force setting up early warning radar stations in defense of the Philippine Islands. Together with his first wife of 44 years, Mary Jane Garvey, he established his family in Florida, moving to Jacksonville in 1946 and then to Plantation in 1959. During his 47-year career with Western Electric he worked as a telephone repairman, wired and repaired switchboards, became a supervisor, methods analyst and regional training instructor. Paul was a devoted father, an active member of the choir and the Saint Vincent DePaul Society at Saint Gregory Church for many years. He loved and honored his family, their many friends, and his friends at the Champions Club at Julington Creek. He will now join his mother and father, wife Mary Jane, younger sister and brother Mary and Joe, heroes from World War II, the Church, Western and many of his closest friends in a more perfect life. Paul will be lovingly remembered by those he has left behind; his caring wife Judy, his two sons Michael and Paul, his daughter-in-law Nancy, four grandchildren Jessica, Joe, Bradford and Blair, his sister Betty Guyer, sister-in-law Lucy Garvey and their extended families. A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 am. on Tuesday, April 16th in San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16th in San Jose Catholic Church, 3619 Toledo Road Rd. Jacksonville, with Father Greg Fay as Celebrant, followed by interment in Oaklawn Cemetery.
