Patricia Weeden Thompson, Pat, Mom, Grammy to us, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2019 in Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by her family. Devoted Mother to Russell (Ted), Jeffrey, Suzanne, and Kathleen. Beloved Grandmother to Brittney, Ryan, Randall, Elizabeth, Eliana, Avienne, Zoey, and Isabel. She is survived by her loving sisters, Marie and Rosemary, her former spouse and friend, Thomas, daughter in-laws, Rikki and Jennifer, son in-law, Colin, and three great grandchildren, Kensley, Cardin, and Scarlett, and deceased brother, David. Raised in Boonville, NY, she was the second of four children of Vera Palmer Weeden and Walter Willard Weeden. She always lived with her family and children in several cities throughout Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and New York.
While married to Russell and travelling the United States as a military wife, she diligently pursued her education earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1968 from Central Michigan University. As an elementary school teacher in Wappingers Falls School District in NY and Broward County School District in FL she later earned her Masters degree in Education in 1974 from the State University of New York College at New Paltz and earned a Doctorate of Education with a specialty in Computers in 1987 from Nova University. After earning her Doctorate, she worked for American Express in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida designing training programs.
Pat had an incredibly creative mind and was known for designing and creating anything from home décor, children’s toys, woodwork, crocheted blankets and children’s clothes. She was an expert seamstress and encouraged her children to imagine and create and carry on her legacy. Pat was always surrounded by her lifelong feline companions and never had less than 2 cats. She is survived by her beloved kitties, Balou, Sugar Pie, and Honey Bunch. Pat honored family traditions and she loved Christmas and all the joy and family time it brought. She was a skilled pianist and singer and passed on her love of music to her children and grandchildren. But as stark as day is to night, Pat was an expert practical joker to the point that our family lovingly refers to ourselves as the Griswolds. From her childhood as the Snoop Sisters to the elaborate parties driven by themes and games that she planned, Pat loved mischief and fun. Always generous and kind, she gave everything she had to her children. We will carry on your legacy!
